Motorhomes are on the rise this summer. As a result of the health crisis due to the coronavirus, the French have preferred holidays in France and with their house on their back. Rentals jumped 60% in July-August compared to the same period last year. "It was brilliant!", Rejoices Patrice after a week traveling the Opal Coast in a campervan rented to individuals. He and his partner come back completely conquered.

Covid-compatible flexibility

It is therefore a successful first. So much so that the couple are now planning to switch from renting to buying. They still hesitate between two models but one thing is certain: the motorhome is Covid-compatible. "It's super practical, you take everything with you. A small apartment on wheels! It was really perfect and in perfect harmony with the recommendations of the government", he summarizes.

And beyond questions of hygiene and respect for barrier gestures, the motorhome also allows you to choose your destination or change it at the last minute. A flexibility sought after by holidaymakers according to Gérard Couté, president of the French Federation of motorhomes. "The motorhome allowed people to leave without taking into account any new rules because we did not know whether, 15 days later, a region was not going to be re-defined. So the motorhome allowed this flexibility", observes- he does. But this flexibility comes at a price. To buy, a motorhome costs on average 60,000 euros.
