Less than two weeks before the start of the school year, with a threat of strike by the teachers in the making and after the increase in cases by Covid in the region, which now adds more than a thousand hospitalized, the regional government is studying which scenario is the most sure so that the return to school is totally face-to-face. From the Ministry of Health, however, they do not recommend that it be 100% "given the scenario of growth of cases" that the region is experiencing, as advanced yesterday by the counselor of the branch, Enrique Ruiz Escudero.

If the situation continues like this, the model that would be considered would be to start the classes in a kind of flexible blended model, the so-called scenario 2 that was established in July, but with modifications. Among the measures that would be applied in this scenario is the elimination of recesses and the elimination of dining rooms. The entry and exit times to class and the subjects would also be made more flexible . The smaller groups of students, Infant and Primary, would be reduced, while ESO and Baccalaureate would study "half face-to-face, half online ".

"It would be about fluffing the classrooms," said Ossorio yesterday, who, however, pointed out that the Government's objective is for all students to be able to return to school, and for this the reduction of the current ratios of students per classroom is being considered , among other measures, in addition to serologic test teachers, establish an exhaustive cleaning classrooms and proper ventilation or separate desks placed in every classroom.

"We are going to try (the classes are 100% face-to-face), but we have to take into account the current data on infections", stressed the counselor, who insisted on working on other "imaginative solutions" adapting the four scenarios that They were presented on July 30, ranging from a 100% face-to-face model to a fully telematic one.

In the event that the second wave of infections increases and "the pandemic continues," Ossorio proposed yesterday to double the classrooms to hire 8,500 personnel, including nurses, although he admitted that they would not be able to provide a nursing professional to each center, since that "there would not be enough between those absorbed by Public Health and those who would be in the centers."

It will not be an easy decision and there is a deadline: next Tuesday, when it is announced that the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, will present the plan, which is being finalized this week by education and Public Health experts from the Community of Madrid.

In the opinion of the Minister of Health, the regional government must take into account many factors to design this beginning of the course. «It is important that we not only assess the particular situation of each school, each classroom, each coexistence group, but that we are in a region; it is a virus that does not understand borders, regions or schools.

Meanwhile, the regional vice president, Ignacio Aguado, yesterday advocated that the return to the classrooms be face-to-face, since if it were not, it would be an "economic blow" that would mean "condemning" thousands of parents to have to leave their work to be able to take care of their children.

«We have already been working for four months so that the return to school is face-to-face. I think we have to keep doing it until the last day, "he told the media at the inauguration of the Puerta del Sol pedestrianization.

Aguado pointed out that there are thousands of parents concerned about what will happen on September 4, when Early Childhood Education begins, parents who have to go to work and who have no other possible alternative for their children to go to school, who cannot telework because their position is face-to-face or because they cannot reconcile teleworking with the care of 4, 5 or 6-year-old children. "If we do not return to school in person, we do not leave Madrid families another alternative," he added.

Meanwhile, the regional government insisted yesterday that the teachers' strike announced by CCOO, UGT, CGT and STEM, is a strictly "political" strike, since, as Ossorio pointed out, they have not yet presented the regional strategy. «It has been convened for political purposes because it has only been convened in Madrid. Did the rest of the communities foresee everything, do they have all the computers, all the teachers and all the classrooms? ”Asked Ossorio.
