He also assured that the transition would be "as short as possible".

The junta spokesman also returned to the reasons for the military coup that overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK) and his Prime Minister, citing in particular the many dysfunctions that are taking place within the army. . "The soldiers were no longer able to carry out their sovereign mission, the level of corruption was too high", indicated Colonel-Major Ismaël Waguë, while refuting the term "coup".

Earlier today, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced the immediate dispatch of a delegation to Bamako, and called for the "reinstatement" of President Keïta in office.

In the aftermath of the putsch, the Malian officer Assimi Goita proclaimed himself head of the junta. The colonel affirmed his will to ensure "the continuity of the services of the State". In the process, the M5-RFP opposition coalition declared that it was ready to work out a political transition with the junta.

Asked by France 24 about its links with the M5, the junta spokesman said "to have no contact". "We are not manipulated by any political party," he added.
