At the international military-technical forum "Army-2020", which starts on August 23 in Kubinka near Moscow, the tracked floating snow and swamp-going vehicle 5901 developed by "Military Industrial Company" LLC (VPK, Moscow) will be presented for the first time. This was reported to RT in the press service of the enterprise.

The key advantage of this type of equipment is its high cross-country ability in a wide variety of natural and climatic conditions. In particular, the all-terrain vehicle is able to overcome deep snow, swampy and desert areas, as well as force water obstacles.

In a comment to TASS, the general director of the military-industrial complex, Alexander Krasovitsky, said that the 5901 snow and swamp-going vehicle differs from other machines by its low average specific ground pressure. When using special wide tracks, it is no more than 0.25 kg / cm². According to the head of the enterprise, this figure is "much less than that of a person."

“With full load, the snow and swamp-going vehicle 5901 is able to overcome virgin snow with deep snow cover, wetlands, sand dunes, as well as open water spaces,” said Krasovitsky.

The snow and swamp vehicle has an all-welded metal single-volume body. The gross vehicle weight is 16 tons, the payload volume is up to 5 tons. Thanks to the 6-cylinder diesel engine YaMZ-536 with a capacity of 312 hp. the brainchild of the military-industrial complex is able to move along the highway at a speed of 55-60 km / h, on the water - 4-6 km / h.

Moscow designers plan to develop an armored version of the 5901 snow and swamp-going vehicle for the needs of the Arctic grouping of the RF Armed Forces.

In an interview with RT, military expert Yuri Knutov noted the importance of the appearance in Russia of multifunctional vehicles with low average specific ground pressure. The operation of these machines allows preserving the fragile ecology of the Russian North, the analyst emphasized.

“The presence of low-pressure snow and swamp vehicles is a fundamental point. They allow you to perform a wide range of tasks, including in the interests of defense, without harming nature. At the same time, ordinary transport leaves traces in the Arctic, damaging the top layer of moss. There will be no vegetation in this place for several years, ”Knutov explained.

Confidence off-road

Experts believe that the new product from the Military Industrial Company will most likely resemble the Vityaz family of two-link tracked all-terrain vehicles, which is now being used by the troops.

From the information of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it follows that this vehicle in the DT-30 modification is used by servicemen of the army corps of the Northern Fleet. In addition, the Tor-M2DT short-range anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM), which also serve in the Arctic, are moved on the Vityaz chassis.

The car feels confident off-road at temperatures down to -50 ° C. Traveling capabilities allow it to overcome areas of wooded and swampy terrain, not to drown in water bodies and deep arctic snow.

According to the manufacturer of tractors, Vityaz Machine-Building Company JSC (Bashkiria), the all-terrain vehicle is capable of “overcoming large areas inaccessible to other ground vehicles” without preliminary reconnaissance.

The company considers the advantages of "Vityaz" to be unpretentiousness, maneuverability, fairly high off-road speed, large cruising range, carrying capacity and buoyancy. These qualities are largely due to the design features of the tractor, hydromechanical transmission and a four-stroke multi-fuel liquid-cooled engine.

The carrying capacity of the modern military modification "Vityaz" (DT-30PM) is 30 tons, the power of the power unit is 710 hp, the maximum speed of movement on land is 44 km / h, afloat - 5 km / h. The manufacturer estimates the average specific pressure of the machine on the ground at 0.3 kg / cm², the fuel range is 700 km.

DT-30PM is the largest model in the line of the Bashkir enterprise. For the needs of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, less heavy versions of all-terrain vehicles are provided - DT-20PM and DT-10PM with a carrying capacity of 20 and 10 tons, respectively. For civil customers, the company produces several Vityaz models with payloads from 3 to 30 tons.

Polar "Sherpa" and "Husky"

Experts believe that Russia has also achieved serious success in the development of multifunctional wheeled all-terrain vehicles, which, like their caterpillar "relatives", can be used in the harshest natural and climatic conditions.

The main manufacturers of wheeled snow and swamp-going vehicles in the Russian Federation are the St. Petersburg enterprise "Sherp" and the Moscow region company "TREKOL" (Lyubertsy). Their products are in great demand not only in Russia, but also abroad, including in Western countries.

So, in October 2019, the newest two-link Sherp all-terrain vehicle with a 10 × 10 wheel arrangement, adapted for operation in high latitudes, was presented in Toronto, Canada. The front link houses the cockpit, while the back link can accommodate a residential or medical module, a transport unit, a power station, and even a small drilling rig.

Carrying capacity of "Sherpa" is 5.5 tons, off-road speed - up to 35 km / h, on water - up to 6 km / h, fuel consumption - 9 l / h. The manufacturer calls the main advantages of the car the smooth running, ease of repair in the field, comfort for the crew and the ability to get out of the ice hole at full load.

As the head of the experimental and testing department of the Sherp company, Alexander Chikin, said earlier in an interview with RT, the novelty presented in Canada will be produced in versions for geological exploration, cable laying, shift work and transport needs.

One of the latest models of the Lyubertsy TREKOL is the Husky all-terrain vehicle with a 6 × 6 wheel arrangement. The snow and swamp-going vehicle will be supplied to the Russian army and has already passed certification tests at the Bronnitsky training ground of the RF Ministry of Defense.

"Husky" is designed to perform transport tasks. The machine is capable of carrying up to 14 people (including the driver) and up to 1.5-2 tons of cargo. According to Andrey Teplov, the chief designer of TREKOL, the new all-terrain vehicle is one of the best amphibious vehicles with a duralumin frame-panel body in the world (in Russia and abroad, snow and swamp-going vehicles with a fiberglass body are mainly common).

“In the Arctic, the duralumin case has the best maintainability. It is relatively easy to repair it in the field, while for working with a fiberglass body, you cannot do without a warm room. Also, the "Husky" body has twice the wall thickness (50 mm) in comparison with our other models. This made it possible to insulate the car well, "Teplov said earlier in a conversation with RT.

Providing mobility

In December 2019, at the international forum "Arctic: Present and Future" in St. Petersburg, an experimental all-terrain vehicle K-8 "Rusak" was presented, developed by the Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NSTU) named after R.E. Alekseev and "KOM Management Company" (Naberezhnye Chelny).

The peculiarity of the car lies in the hybrid motor, which makes it easier to start the engine in cold weather and provides additional resource when driving in conditions of fuel shortage. The power plant "Rusaka" consists of a familiar internal combustion engine and two electrical units with a capacity of 75 kW each.

Depending on the modification, the hybrid vehicle can carry 14-20 people and various loads weighing up to 2.5 tons. With full tanks (300 liters), the Rusak can cover about 300 km off-road, and several thousand kilometers on a dirt road or highway. ...

In a commentary on RT, military expert Yuri Knutov noted that Russian all-terrain vehicles earned high marks for reliability and driving performance. According to the analyst, the operation of snow and swamp vehicles allows Russia to continue the economic development of the Arctic and Siberian areas. This technique is also of great importance for the development of the Arctic grouping of forces.

“The new Russian all-terrain vehicles are primarily about ensuring mobility in the harsh conditions of Siberia and our northern latitudes. They allow the military to transfer troops, conduct reconnaissance and engage in the construction of various facilities. In favor of motor transport is its cheapness compared to helicopters, ”Knutov emphasized.

Dmitry Litovkin, editor of the Independent Military Review, shares a similar point of view. According to the expert, the development and establishment of serial production of snow and swamp-going vehicles of various carrying capacities fully meet the national interests of Russia.

“Russian all-terrain vehicles, especially those operated by the army, have an absolute advantage over their foreign counterparts. Russia is able to produce relatively inexpensive, unpretentious and reliable automotive equipment. It works in any conditions, and this is its key advantage, ”Litovkin summed up.
