August 20, 2020 - French health authorities today announced 4,711 new coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, a new post-lockdown record. A level last seen during the height of the epidemic in France.

During the lockdown, France recorded a peak of 7,578 cases on March 31, but there have been only a few days since then with the number of daily infections over 4,500. This was announced by the Ministry of Health of Paris.

The infection rate has soared in recent days, but the number of people admitted to hospital with Covid-19 has been relatively stable, and the number of new deaths per day has also remained stable at double digits. Twelve new deaths were reported today, as reported by the daily Le Figaro.
