“The members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern over the recent events in Mali. They strongly condemned the rebellion that took place in Katya on August 18, 2020 and which led to the arrest of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and several members of the government by some rebels, ”RIA Novosti quoted the Security Council statement.

The Security Council also called on "the rebels to immediately and without causing harm to release all detained officials and immediately return to their barracks."

The French Foreign Ministry called on all political forces in Mali for dialogue and demanded the immediate release of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and members of the government.

Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, previously arrested by the rebel military, has announced his resignation, as well as the dissolution of parliament and government.
