Frenchman Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ) won the Tour de Wallonie cycliste after winning the last stage between Blegny and Erezée (198 km) on Wednesday ahead of Belgians Philippe Gilbert and Greg Van Avermaet.

On rough terrain, Démare resisted an acceleration from Gilbert before passing him in the last few meters and securing his second victory of the week.

Wearing the yellow jersey since Monday, the 28-year-old sprinter won the third victory of his career in a stage race after the 4 Days of Dunkirk (2014) and the Vattenfall Cyclassics (2012).

Already winner this season at Milan-Turin, Démare is asserting himself as one of the men to beat Sunday at the French championships in Brittany.
