Jordan extends the closure of its border crossing with Syria for a second week

Yesterday, the Jordanian Minister of Interior, Salama Hammad, decided to extend the closure of the Jaber border crossing with Syria for a second week, starting today, after new infections with the Corona virus were recorded among the workers at the border center, according to an official Jordanian source.

And local infections with the Corona virus increased in Jordan, after it was limited to Jordanians returning from abroad and residing in quarantine places. Last Tuesday, 40 injuries were recorded, of which 30 were local.

Last week, many injuries were recorded among workers at the Jaber border crossing with Syria, most of them among customs employees and brokers.

The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) said that the Minister of Interior decided yesterday to extend the closure of Jaber Borders Center for another week, from Thursday morning.

Last week, Hammad decided to close the Jaber border center with Syria for a week, after 25 cases of Corona virus were recorded, most of them among the workers at the crossing, provided that the procedures are reviewed and evaluated.

According to the minister, “Work at the Al-Omari border center (with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) is still ongoing and the center has not been closed.”
