Yannick Jadot, MEP EELV, wants environmentalists to nominate their candidate for 2022 "before January", reaffirming his "determination" to present his own candidacy "for the vote of the militants" of his party, Wednesday in an interview with Liberation.fr .

"Political ecology must have its candidacy and launch the construction of its project before the month of January, to take the time to gather very widely", affirms Mr. Jadot, in this interview published on the eve of the "summer days" des ecologists "(August 20 to 22 in Pantin, Seine-Saint-Denis), co-organized by his party and five other environmental groups.

According to him, "the victory in 2022 of the ecological and humanist forces is possible", "the objective" being to "beat Macron and Le Pen and to make social ecology win against technocratic liberalism and the extreme right".

He says the candidate must be chosen by "a vote of the militants". "I am against the primary, which has become a dividing machine," he adds.

Ecologists have "a historic responsibility. We arouse hope, that of profoundly transforming society and reconciling ourselves with nature. We must build ecology on a large scale. One that mobilizes and brings together the living forces of society".

Mr. Jadot denounces "a real disintegration of the republican pact, an underinvestment in public services", as well as the government, which "remains that of lobbies ready to sacrifice nature, the climate and social justice".

"The ecological project is one million jobs in 2022, in the construction and insulation of housing, schools, nursing homes, organic farming, renewable energies, ecotourism, collective transport and rail freight, in industrial relocation and the end of planned obsolescence ... ", he says.

Asked about the EELV mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle, who is also thinking of 2022, Yannick Jadot replies that his "only opponent is the perils that threaten our country and the planet". "So don't count on me for little phrases and picrocholine wars."
