Blekinge's varied nature means that many wild animals thrive here. The population of wild boar has increased in recent years, the hunting data shows that they have gone from shooting about 1,000 wild boars in Blekinge in 2006 to over 5,000 in 2019.

The Swedish Hunters' Association anticipates that there may be more wild boars next year and this is mainly due to two reasons.

The weather affects

One is delayed litters as the litters have been moved to later in the year.

- We had a fairly mild winter. Then it got cold and damp for a while there, and then we suspect that some of the cults died. Later, the sows re-spawned and gave birth to cubs later in the year, says Jesper Einarsson, hunting care consultant.

He believes that when the cubs are born later, they are also smaller in size during the autumn. Einarsson believes that hunters avoid shooting the little ones and thus they will have to live on until the spring.

- It will be meat from what you shoot.

Had good access to "rocket fuel"

The other reason why there may be more wild boars in Blekinge this year is that there have been several good acorn years in a row, as acorns are good feed for the wild animals. Since there is a lot of oak in Blekinge, the animals thrive in the county.

- Some describe it as rocket fuel, they come in good shape. If there were plenty of acorns last year, there will probably also be many cults born in 2020, says Jesper Einarsson.
