“The European Union must continue to mobilize together with hundreds of thousands of Belarusians who peacefully demonstrate respect for their rights, freedoms and sovereignty,” Macron wrote on Twitter.

In turn, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the European Union is in solidarity with the people of Belarus. 

“Hundreds of thousands of people gathered today in peaceful demonstrations, demanding the release of political prisoners, punishment of those responsible for the police violence, and real elections. The European Union stands with the people of Belarus, ”he wrote on Twitter.

Earlier it was reported that in Minsk those who disagreed with the victory of Alexander Lukashenko in the presidential elections came to a protest action. According to the Belarusian media, up to 220 thousand people took part in the rally. A rally in support of Lukashenka was also held in the city.
