On the Quai d'Orsay map of Burkina Faso, the “orange color” is gradually diminishing.

Until then, the areas considered the most dangerous were those bordering the Malian border, in the north and the west, to which was added, at the end of last year, the whole of the region of Mali. east , border territory of Niger, Benin and Togo.

Now, since August 15, all of southern Burkina Faso has been placed in the red by the Quai d'Orsay, which means that the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs “  formally advises  ” travelers to go to these areas. Cities like Po, Léo, Ouessa and the Nazinga animal park, on the Ghanaian border, are therefore concerned.

The same goes for Douna, Banfora and Niangoloko, on the Ivorian border, as well as Ouahigouya, which was at the edge of the red zone, in the north of the country, and Kaya, in the center-north. The security situation has deteriorated sharply in these regions in recent months.

These territories of Burkina Faso were until yesterday, Saturday, in "orange zone", that is to say "  not recommended except for imperative reason  " by the Quai d'Orsay. To date, the country's two largest cities, Bobo-Dioulasso and Ouagadougou, the capital, remain in the orange zone.

After Niger and Mali

These modifications come after those of Niger and Mali . Three major Malian cities - Kayes, Sikasso and Ségou - are henceforth marked and classified in “red zone”.

This extension takes place a week after the attack on Kouré, Niger, which claimed the lives of six French aid workers and two Nigerien guides.

With the exception of Niamey, the capital, all of Niger was placed in the red zone this week.
