Almeria club, owned by the head of the Saudi entertainment authority, Turki Al-Sheikh, lost the race to go to the Spanish First Division after losing 2-1 to Girona, in the semi-final second leg of the promotion.

Girona rose to the final thanks to goals from Samo Saez in the fourth minute and Christian Stoani in the 84th minute, while Almería's only goal was scored by Jose Carlos Lazo in the 26th minute. Girona had won the first leg 1-0.

Al Sheikh acquired Almeria club in August of last year, and made major investments in the team, hiring a number of players and enlisting the help of coaches who previously worked in first-class teams.

According to the Spanish newspaper "AS", Almeria has signed 14 players in order to fulfill the dream of returning to the Spanish First Division for the first time since 2015, and five coaches have been coaching the team during the current season, the last of whom was Jose Gomez.

It is noteworthy that Turki Al-Sheikh acquired Almeria after withdrawing its investments in Egypt and abandoning the Pyramids club, after months of conflict and controversy with the Egyptian football poles Al-Ahly and Zamalek.
