The number of cases on the island has risen sharply every week, especially since the midsummer week, according to the Public Health Agency's statistics. And last week, Gotland had the most confirmed cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, writes Helagotland.se.

According to the authority's statistics on disease cases at regional level, the island had 34 cases - the highest listing ever. It means 57 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

But it is not just Gotlanders who have been infected. Over 40 percent of the cases were people who are not registered in the region, says infection control doctor Sven Montelius.

Of the 34 cases last week, 20 were registered on Gotland and 14 were registered elsewhere. Statistics are difficult, what do you really count on? But of course there is a spread of infection on Gotland, he tells the newspaper.

In the same week, no intensive care cases were reported on the island. The majority of those affected in the region are young people who are otherwise healthy, according to Montelius.

Second on the list of most cases per 100,000 inhabitants last week was Västra Götaland, with 39 cases. The smallest number of cases was in Västerbotten with 3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
