At 10 o'clock on Saturday morning, the arrest hearing was held against the 27-year-old man who is suspected of having started the fire at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp on Wednesday morning.

The court has now ruled that the man should be arrested, reasonably suspected of the fire.

- He is detained because we judge that it is important that he is taken into custody during the investigation and that his contact with the outside world is limited, says Thed Adelswärd, chief counsel at Lund District Court.

The chief adviser says that the decision may be appealed.

- The suspect's lawyer has said that he will appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal as soon as possible.

Lower the degree of suspicion

According to Chief Prosecutor Pernilla Åström, he is reasonably suspected, which means that the suspicions are of the weaker degree.

- He is wanted in custody for arson on reasonable suspicion. This is what we call an investigative arrest to see if we can come up with probable cause within a week, she tells TT.

According to Ewa-Gunn Westford, the police's spokesperson, today's message from the prosecutor does not affect the police's work.

- It is not possible to draw any conclusions from the fact that the man is now wanted in custody. For us at the police, the investigation work continues as usual, she tells SVT Nyheter Skåne.

Previously suspected of arson

At the fire in Alnarp early on Wednesday morning, a large, older wooden storage building was destroyed. The 27-year-old was arrested in a personal check afterwards.
He has previously been suspected of having started other fires, but has not been convicted of any such crime.

Lund and the surrounding area have been affected by a large number of suspected fires during the spring and summer, and the police therefore began Operation Spark in July.
