The Basque Government will activate the second 'health emergency' on Monday with which it intends to stop the second wave of Covid-19 infections. The acting Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will once again coordinate all the decisions of the Basque administrations as he did on March 13, 24 hours before the Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the state of alarm. The acting councilors Nekane Murga and Arantxa Tapia will appear today from 12.30 pm to specify the measures that the Basque Government intends to activate in the face of the increase in outbreaks of the last two weeks. In the last 24 hours there have been 510 infections, there are 136 hospitalized and during the next three days they intend to carry out 500 tests in the town of Azpeitia after detecting an outbreak in an area of bars.

The Basque Government will publish next Monday a triple regulation that takes Euskadi back to the situation experienced on March 13 at the beginning of the first wave of Covid-19. The Lehendakari Urkullu and the counselor Nekane Murga had already warned that they would adopt new more restrictive measures if the increase in infections with continuous outbreaks was maintained, both linked to places of leisure such as bars and restaurants and in homes for the elderly.

Urkullu warned last Saturday that it would be necessary to adopt new measures and hinted to resort to 'curfews' to counteract the appearance of infections linked to the so-called 'non-parties' that are happening in the Basque towns during this month of August.

Nightlife is behind the device activated today by the Department of Health in the Gipuzkoan municipality of Azpeitia after detecting 13 positives in one day in Azpeitia. The Basque Government has asked all citizens who drank in the bars on Erdikale Street last weekend (7, 8 and 9) to request an appointment to carry out PCR tests during this weekend. Everything indicates that among the 13 confirmed there are workers from these premises and, as happened in towns such as Ordizia, Tolosa, Eibar or Zarautz, the Health department intends to limit infections by identifying possible positives as soon as possible.

The first positives in Azpeitia were made public last Wednesday with four affected (two of them religious) who reside in the Loyola Spirituality Center. According to the data provided by Osakidetza, until last Wednesday a total of 7 positives had been detected in this municipality, but in the last hour count the contagion soared in 13 new victims. Hours after this information was made public, Osakidetza announced the start of generalized tests in this town of just 14,000 inhabitants but due to a source of contagion in the Erdikale leisure area, located more than two kilometers from the Loyola Basilica.

In addition, the sprouts have also reached Basque residences. The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has confirmed today a new source of contagions in the Gallarta residence of the Foral Institute of Social Assistance, which affects 11 users and 5 workers. With this new outbreak, there are already 3 Biscayan residences with users affected by the coronavirus and 53 the number of users with positive, as well as 49 workers with confirmed contagion.

The balance of infected people in residences in this Historical Territory amounts to 53 users and 116 workers, of which 49 have confirmed the contagion and 67 are in a situation of preventive isolation, without having confirmed their contagion.

In total, 510 are newly infected in the Basque Country, of which 136 are hospitalized. 13 patients are in Intensive Care Units.
