In various parts of the country, there have been waves of thefts in recent years where agricultural companies have lost valuable GPS equipment from among tractors, combine harvesters and other agricultural machinery.

- We have had recurring thefts in the countryside during the year of various kinds, including GPS equipment from agricultural machinery, says Anders Wiss, local police area manager in Varberg.

Has received intelligence information

The police in Varberg are now going out via social media and warning the general public in the countryside that international theft gangs specializing in agricultural vehicles and tools may be on the move in the region.

- We have received intelligence that this may be the case, says local police area chief Anders Wiss.

He does not want to go further into what that information is based on.

"Unusual" observations

Police urge the public to be vigilant around places where agricultural vehicles and tools are stored.

“We are keen to get tips on cars and people who can be seen in areas without an obvious case. Note registration numbers, signals and other observations that you perceive as "unusual" and report these to the police, "the Police in Varberg wrote on social media on Friday.

In previous thefts, criminal gangs traveling in vans have been documented. In some cases, houses or cottages in separate places in the countryside have been rented and acted as a collection warehouse for the stolen goods before they are transported out of the country, according to the police.
