Under the auspices of the White House, Israel and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday pledged to normalize their diplomatic relations in exchange for the suspension of the Israeli plan to annex part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

For the New York Post , unconditional support of Donald Trump, the agreement is "  the has evidence brighter than the policies of the president in the Near and Middle East is good : the administration has strengthened ties US-Israeli and uses now as a rallying point for Arab states which fear Iran more than Israel ”. This success belies all those critical voices - Democrats, European countries and UN bureaucrats in the lead - who had falsely predicted that the establishment of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem and the recognition of Israel's annexation of the Golan Heights would lead to greater Arab unity and possibly warJubilant the tabloid. And the New York Post columnist concludes: " Let us now see if Joe Biden and the media that support him know how to show sufficient integrity to recognize this victory for Donald Trump's diplomacy  ."

On the side of newspapers close to the Democrats, a columnist for the New York Timesspeaks of a “  geopolitical earthquake that will benefit moderates in the region and isolate pro-Iranian, pro-Islamist and anti-American radicals. The United States, Israel and the United Arab Emirates showed this Thursday for a brief moment that those who advocate hatred and division do not always win. This deal,  "the New York Times continues ,"  is a breath of fresh air. May it turn into a wind of change blowing across the region  ”.

The columnist for the CNN channel , very critical of the president, believes that a few weeks before the elections, this agreement represents for Donald Trump the only good news in a flood of bad. “  The big losers in all of this are the Palestinians. The decision of a Gulf state to normalize its relations with Israel is a blow to their cause. This agreement clearly reflects how much the region and Arab priorities have changed  ”.

Postal voting stirs up more and more tensions

As The Washington Post reported today, the President once again claimed to be opposed to the US Postal Service's request for emergency funding of $ 25 billion and additional aid of $ 3.5 billion. for states that want to improve the postal voting system in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic. These two financings claimed by the Democrats are included in the new economic aid plan currently at an impasse in Congress. “  If we don't accept this deal, it means they won't be able to get this money. And that means they won't be able to resort to postal voting  , ”the president told Fox News.

These words spark an uproar in the press today

The Trump administration is therefore knowingly starving the US postal service to prevent postal voting  ," says the Los Angeles Times . It is an outright attempt to suppress voters  ", protests the Houston Chronicle which speaks of "  an attack on democracy  ". “  It is true that under the Trump presidency we were entitled to everything. But here we really hit rock bottom  ”.

The Chicago Tribune, for its part, predicts that “  an overwhelmed and underfunded position could do more harm to the Republican Party than to the Democrats in the November election. Because conservative voters are on average older and more often live in rural areas. But this is only the least of the president's worries  , ”the newspaper said. “  His method now consists of sowing chaos and doubt on the integrity of an election which would be held largely by correspondence. A card that Donald Trump intends to play in case of defeat. And he no longer hides it  ”.

Another Ohio newspaper, the Chicago Sun Times , concludes: "  It should disgust every American that a president - to promote his re - election - is openly working to destroy a right enshrined in our Constitution, namely : the guarantee of 'honest elections  '.
