- I am very proud, says Anette Eliasson, who is the sector manager for the libraries in Gothenburg.

There are two Volvo buses that have been given a playful interior design and have had their exteriors illustrated by the artist Alexander Jansson.

Electric book buses replace previous book buses

And already today, several preschool children could take part in the book buses that had been set up for display in the Garden Association.

- They have eight dots, says Meja Magnusson, and points to a book with ladybugs that she took out of the shelf.

Even his friend Oskar Lagerkvist De la Torre is fascinated by his book and flips through the pictures of zombies.

The two buses will replace the previous two book buses that will be phased out in September when the new ones will start rolling around the city. They will be set up in different districts on different days of the week, according to a schedule that exists.

Can drive around in environmental zones

The advantage is also that the electric buses can run around the inner city, where there are environmental zones and the previous buses have not been able to run.

The first book bus came to Gothenburg as early as 1950. In the 60s, there were four book buses in the city, but now there are two book buses. The public libraries have had to take an ever larger place.

- But many children have a long way to their libraries, so the book buses complement the libraries, says Anette Eliasson.
