14 August 2020Rush to train and plane tickets and skyrocketing prices after the British government's announcement that Brits returning from France tomorrow morning will have to spend two weeks in quarantine to contain the risk of the coronavirus spreading.

Eurotunnel, reports the BBC, has announced that all trains with parking spaces are booked until Sunday morning and has also warned passengers not to show up at the terminal without a ticket. The cost of the few seats left on the Eurostar that passes under the Channel has increased within a few hours: the cheapest ticket from Paris to London now sells for 209.50 pounds (about 232 euros), while for the last train tonight you can get to spend up to 269.50 pounds.

Airline tickets are also on the rise with the Paris-London route sold at 6 times the normal price and most seats sold out within minutes of the Downing Street announcement. The cheapest price of British Airways is 450 pounds (about 498 euros), of Air France 531 pounds. According to Google Flight data, today there are only three flights to Great Britain that still have seats available.

It is estimated that around 160,000 Brits are currently on holiday in France.
