The Moderates (M) have submitted their special opinion to the Migration Committee. There, M proposes that a volume target be introduced for Swedish migration policy. The goal must correspond to the asylum immigration of Denmark, Norway and Finland.

The number of asylum seekers in Sweden in 2019 amounted to just under 22,000. ”In addition, there is immigration through family reunification. All in all, this is asylum immigration at unsustainably high levels, in terms of Sweden's reception capacity and integration capacity, ”says M's statement.

Reserves

According to M's migration policy spokesperson Maria Malmer Stenergard, the Nordic level corresponds to approximately 5,000 asylum seekers to Sweden.

To achieve that goal, M proposes several measures for more people with deportation decisions to return and for those who are allowed to stay to qualify for welfare services and grants.

M also has reservations about several proposals that the Migration Committee will submit to the government. These are proposals that have a majority of the parties behind them, but the majorities differ depending on the proposal. The Social Democrats are the only party behind all the proposals.

Tighter rules for relative immigration

Maria Malmer Stenergard (M).

Maria Malmer Stenergard does not think those proposals are strict enough.

- Then we will maintain levels of immigration and Sweden will not be able to do that, she says.

M reserves the right, for example, that the length of the first time-limited permit for the person in need of protection should be 13 months. M proposes twelve months.

The party also wants stricter rules for relative immigration. For those in need of alternative protection, the right to family reunification shall only apply after at least two years' legal residence in the country.

M also wants to increase the maintenance requirement compared with the committee's proposal to correspond to the minimum wage according to a collective agreement or industry practice for full-time employment.
