He said this during a press conference following talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“I think only a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Belarus is possible, it is necessary to hold new elections with the serious presence of international observers,” Pompeo quoted TASS as saying.

Earlier, Pompeo called the elections in Belarus unfree and unfair.

He called on the Belarusian authorities to refrain from violence and allow citizens to "participate in peaceful assemblies."

On August 12, all the candidates for the presidency of Belarus, except for Alexander Lukashenko, challenged the results of the presidential elections in the Central Election Commission of the republic.

On August 10, the CEC of Belarus announced the preliminary results of the presidential elections in the republic, according to which the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, is gaining 80.23% of the vote.
