Outbreaks appear to be linked to a restaurant in Grebbestad

A night out with care staff at Kungälv Hospital and a birthday celebration with those closest to Dals-Ed. Both are examples from SVT Väst's reporting in the past week where several of the groups have been infected with the coronavirus in western Sweden.

In both cases, the people fell ill shortly after a restaurant visit in Grebbestad. The visits took place at the same restaurant, within a week of each other. There is also a third case, where 15 people from one and the same football team in Ale have been infected after a training camp in Grebbestad, something that Bohusläningen, among others, wrote about. The team had also been to the same restaurant.

Those who have been infected in Grebbestad must in turn have infected a number of other people. But it is not possible to trace the corona outbreaks among these three groups to the specific restaurant, says assistant infection control doctor Eva Lindhusen Lindhé.

- We have this under scrutiny, but we can not say for sure that this is where people have been infected. There are a lot of people in Grebbestad in the summer so I am not at all surprised that we get the spread of infection there, she says.

The restaurant manager tells SVT Nyheter Väst that they follow the restrictions that exist and they also have security guards.

- We have had environmental and health from the municipality here four or five times a week and it has looked good, he says.

The municipality of Tanum confirms the image that the restaurants in the municipality work hard to follow the recommendations that exist. They have supervised around 100 restaurants every week now during the high summer and the injunctions have been few.

- The restaurateurs and entrepreneurs really do everything they can, says Christina Lörnemark, environmental manager in Tanum.

That it would be about some form of so-called "super spreader" connected to the restaurant is unlikely because it took about ten days between the three restaurant visits, says Eva Lindhusen Lindhé. Instead, she thinks it is about the fact that there have been a lot of people at the tourist resorts in the region this summer.

- It's probably like this: If you are pushed into society in this way as it has been done this summer, and the infection is in the community, then the infection will increase.
