Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached an agreement on Thursday to normalize their relations . US President Donald Trump has announced a "historic peace agreement" between the two countries, according to Afp.
This pact, which has counted on the mediation of Trump to reach a successful conclusion, will lead to the total normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Emirati ambassador to the US has affirmed that the pact maintains the viability of the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. For his part, the Israeli ambassador in Washington has praised Trump's mediation in this deal. "It is a great day for peace," he said on Twitter, Reuters reports.
Under the agreement, Israel has agreed to suspend the annexation of areas of the West Bank, several senior White House officials have revealed to Reuters. The pact is the result of a long dialogue between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the United States that has recently accelerated and was sealed this Thursday in a phone call between Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
