Joe Biden, former Vice President and Democratic candidate running for President Donald Trump, knows what the word vice president means, as he served eight years as Vice President Barack Obama, and he knows very well why he was chosen for this position.

Biden possessed what Obama does not possess, and like Biden what his president does not represent, hence the choice was complementary to an election card - the two sides of which do not separate the president and the deputy - many Americans.

Experts attacked the candidate for his young age and lack of experience in foreign policy matters, and criticized him for not knowing the corridors of Washington, DC.

That is why Obama chose a deputy with Biden worth to compensate for his weaknesses. He was much older than him, and had more than four decades of experience in Washington, in addition to his experience in foreign policy issues appreciated by all.

Biden, who is close to 78, followed the same approach by choosing Kamala Harris, 55, to join him in the Democratic presidential card seeking to remove Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the White House in the presidential elections scheduled for the third of next November.

Three unconventional factors, according to observers, pushed Harris' choice that would have a major impact on the 2020 presidential election results.

First: Harris ... Similar to the New and Changing America
Harris represents a similar voice to America's demographic images, in which the proportion of the non-white population is rapidly increasing.

The dynamics of American society during the last half century, with which nearly 60 million people have immigrated to the country from mainly Catholic Central America and mainly non-Christian Asia, have made America and its society more diverse and different from what many believe.

By the middle of this year, the population of the United States reached 330 million, of whom 60.4% were whites, 18.3% were Hispanics (they are mainly Mexican Catholics), 12.7% were Africans, and 5.6% were Asians, and the rest varied, according to office data. General census.

Meanwhile, there are 45.2 million Americans who were born outside the country and have naturalized her nationality, including Harris' parents, Donald Sr., a black man from Jamaica, and Shyamala, an Indian mother, from the Tamil minority.

Hence, Kamala's background as black and Indian is a magnet for millions of people of color from the minorities who are constantly increasing their vote in future elections.

Harris has a long track record of helping irregular migrants, both in terms of obtaining legal ways to work and obtain legal residency and health insurance for themselves and their children.

The fact that Harris is from San Francisco is a boost to attract the party's youth, including Sanders' supporters in addition to (French) minorities.

Second: Harris ... Progressive
Biden realized that the Democratic Party is undergoing significant ideological changes revealed by the power of the left-wing candidate Bernie Sanders, as expressed in his two presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020.

Harris believes that it can attract traditional democratic moderates, in addition to attracting supporters of the increasingly progressive current strength within party circles.

From here, Biden chose a candidate who was satisfied with the left-wing rising trend in his power within the Democratic Party, as Harris advocated progressive issues such as providing health insurance for all Americans, canceling student debts and working to get rid of traditional energy sources by 2030, in addition to progressive positions on the issue of climate change.

Harris’s origin and being from the San Francisco area (the center of the Progressive Current in the Democratic Party) is a push to attract the party’s youth from Sanders’s supporters, in addition to minorities, blacks and supporters of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, especially in a period that witnessed widespread ethnic tensions following the killing of George Floyd.

Harris describes herself as progressive during her tenure as a California attorney general, and while she has been pushed to the left on issues like same-sex marriage and the death penalty, she has angered liberals at times by refusing to go any further.

During her presidential campaign, the senator expressed herself that she could solve problems pragmatically and in many ways, she represents how the Democratic Party has moved to the left on a large scale, even if she remains more moderate than the progressive stars of the party such as Senator Sanders or Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Third: Harris ... a woman
pushes the choice of a woman for the third time, in American history to run for the vice presidency, to increase the enthusiasm of female voters, especially with the issue of the spread of the new Corona virus and its health consequences topping the list of priorities of American voters.

In a poll conducted by Monmouth University, Biden outperformed Trump by 19 points among female voters, and this is a very high and reassuring percentage for Biden, especially with the percentage of women reaching 53% of the total American electorate.

In a new opinion poll conducted by the Pew Center on party affiliation, 56% of women expressed their loyalty to the Democratic Party, while the percentage among men is only 42%.

Harris is the first senator of Indian descent and the second woman of African descent to hold the office, and is also the third woman to hold the senatorial position from California.

During her time in the Senate, she was famous for adopting important legislation for health care programs, especially with regard to the health of women and children.

Arousing women's enthusiasm to participate in the elections in large proportions would reduce President Trump's chances of winning and being re-elected.

Trump said he was surprised when Biden chose Harris as his running mate in the presidential election (Reuters)

Chances of selection
President Trump said in his comment on Harris' choice that he was surprised by Biden's choice because she was not respected during the primary debates in the Democratic race.

Trump said Harris "does not respect Joe Biden and it is difficult to choose someone who is less respectful of others."

Many experts liken Biden’s choice of Harris by choosing former presidents of their biggest opponents in the primaries, such as the case of Ronald Reagan with George Bush the father in the 1988 elections, or Bill Clinton’s choice of rival Al Gore as his deputy in the 1992 election.

When Harris was asked about her aggressive attack during the first presidential debates against her rival Biden, she responded with one word in which she indicated that it was a "debate"!
