أصدرت محكمة جنايات القاهرة، والمنعقدة بسجن طرة (جنوبي القاهرة) برئاسة المستشار محمد شيرين فهمي، حكما بالسجن المؤبد على مرشد الإخوان محمد بديع وعشرة آخرين من قادة الجماعة بتهمة التخابر مع حركة حماس.

كما أصدرت المحكمة حكما بالسجن المشدد عشر سنوات على ثلاثة، وسبع سنوات على اثنين، وبراءة باقي المتهمين، وبينهم الدكتور صفوت حجازي ونجل نائب المرشد خيرت الشاطر.

كما قررت انقضاء الجنائية بالوفاة عن الرئيس الراحل محمد مرسي، وقالت إنه "كان يستحق العقاب بجريمة التخابر وأمره بيد الخالق".

Among the most prominent of those sentenced to 25 years imprisonment are former Parliament Speaker Saad Al-Katatni, Deputy Guide of the Community Khairat Al-Shater, Essam Al-Erian, Muhammad Al-Beltagy, Saad Al-Husseini, Hazem Farouq, Mohi Hamed and Ahmed Abdel-Atti, Director of Morsi's office.

Among the most prominent of those sentenced to ten years imprisonment are Essam Al-Haddad, Morsi's assistant for foreign relations and international cooperation, Dr. Ayman Ali, advisor to the late President for Egyptians abroad, and Ahmed Al-Hakim.

As for those who were sentenced to seven years imprisonment, they are Muhammad Refaa Al-Tahtawi, head of the presidential office during Morsi's rule, and his assistant, Asaad Al-Sheikha.

On November 22, 2016, the Court of Cassation (the highest court in the country) accepted the defendants' appeal against the initial ruling issued against them.

On June 16, 2015, Counselor Shaaban Al-Shami issued death sentences against the first deputy guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Eng. Khairat Al-Shater, the leader of the Brotherhood and one of the symbols of the January 25, 2011 revolution, Dr. Muhammad Al-Beltagy, and Ahmed Abdel-Ati.

Meanwhile, Morsi, Murshid General of the Muslim Brotherhood and 15 others were sentenced to life imprisonment, and Muhammad Rafa'a Al-Tahtawi and his assistant Asaad Al-Sheikha were sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

The charges on which the previous rulings were issued include: “Committing intelligence crimes with foreign organizations and entities outside the country, namely the Palestinian Hamas movement, the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, with the aim of preparing terrorist operations inside the Egyptian territories.” These charges were denied by the defendants and considered “political.” .
