- This is very important, now we get a comprehensive picture of what there is for fish in the lake, says Michael Bergström.

He is a fisheries supervisor at the County Administrative Board in Jönköping and leads the work of trial fishing in about 10 places with shallow water around the lake.

Different bottom types are to be investigated and Lemunda outside Motala was the place where you got the most crayfish. 3000 pieces and only about 50 larger and smaller fish:

- When we were here in 1998, there were no crayfish in Lake Vättern, but now they are found throughout the lake, especially on this side.

Peeling the crayfish from the nets is a time consuming job and it hurts:

- Last week I did not wear gloves and it took three days before my hands healed, says Alf Hultqvist, one of those who help whiten the nets.

All fish are measured

The project receives EU support and is a collaboration between the four county administrative boards around Lake Vättern. The trial fishing ends on Friday and then the catches will be analyzed. Michael Bergström does not worry that the crayfish have completely taken over the lake, but says that they have found Gös, Perch, Pike, Roach, Gärs, Siklöja Benlöja, Nissöga, Elritsa and Stensimpa in the nets:

- We do not get any nobler denominations such as Salmon, Trout or Char so close to land, it is too hot in the water.

The fish caught were measured and weighed, but the crayfish were only counted and then thrown back into the lake.
