Former England international Alex Goode, European player of the year in 2019, will play a season in Japan with NEC Green Rockets, on loan from English club Saracens with whom he extended his contract on Wednesday until 2023.

Goode, a 32-year-old full-back, will fly to Japan at the end of the English Premiership season this weekend, after a long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I love being a part of this club (Saracens)," said Goode, who will return to the Saracens in May, relegated due to salary cap violations.

Goode is the latest star to extend with the Saracens, club with which he has won national titles since the first in 2011 and three European cups, after Owen Farrell, Maro Itoje, Jamie George, Elliot Daly the Mako brothers and Billy Vunipola.

"Alex Goode is one of the most gifted players of his generation," said Mark McCall, Saracens rugby manager.
