The Director of Public Transport Systems Department at the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Khaled Al-Awadi, revealed to "Emirates Today" that the system for controlling passenger movement within public transport via the electronic platform, launched by the authority last June, has reduced the number of violations of physical distancing measures. Mandatory 84%, and reduce congestion in stations and public transport within a few weeks of its implementation.

He said that the idea of electronic technology working through the platform is based on monitoring public buses violating the laws of social distancing using data technology by analyzing and comparing the numbers of passengers in each bus stop, and at each transaction at the flight level, with the total number of passengers allowed around the clock, in a manner that ensures compliance By applying physical distancing between bus users.

Al-Awadi stressed that the platform is used to support decision-making to limit the spread of the (Covid-19) virus, and to ensure that the right decisions are taken at the right time.

Al-Awadi identified four data provided by the big data that is collected through the platform, and analyzed by the employees of the control center of the Public Transport Agency at the Authority, on the basis of which the details and causes of violations are determined.

The data includes monitoring the specified percentage of passengers and the observed exceeding percentage divided by the time and hour in which the violation continued, the date, time and place of monitoring the violation from the relevant trips, the line number and the flight data in which the violation of the physical distancing was detected, the information of the offending driver, in addition to monitoring the time period during which The violation persisted, and the number of times non-compliance with the established procedure.

Al-Awadi pointed out that studying and analyzing data daily and identifying improvement measures will help in making decisions that contribute to reducing violations of physical distancing between passengers, and working to determine the procedures that will be adopted in the future by inspectors of the Public Transport Corporation and the Bus Control Center to immediately intervene to stop and reduce abuses.

Al-Awadi touched on the decisions made based on the platform's data, including the decision to increase 18 buses on the lines that suffer from repeated violations, starting from the last week of June, which reduced the daily rate of non-compliance with physical distancing from 220 cases per day to only 35 cases. That is, a decrease of 84%, and this contributed to reducing overcrowding and helping to reduce instances of non-compliance with physical distancing.

He pointed out that the platform was useful in studying and determining the volume of demand for different bus lines by customers, peak times and congestion, and that this was used in developing the bus planning mechanism by adjusting the periodicity of operating some lines, and reducing the time between trips for some lines as needed.

He pointed out that the use of the platform contributed to ensuring that the demand was covered by the dealers, thus improving the customer experience and contributing to increasing their satisfaction, and developing the bus operations and follow-up mechanisms from the control center, and work was done to educate drivers and train them on how to deal to prevent violations, and to ensure no Repeat for busiest lines.

1615 buses in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai confirmed that the aim of using the electronic platform technology is to control the spread of the Corona virus in public buses, which are the most used method by the public, in light of the presence of about 1615 buses covering most areas of Dubai, which requires the provision of a system Integrated technologies, such as big data and artificial intelligence, to ensure maximum physical distancing measures are available.
