This was announced by Nikolai Voskresensky, head of the information support department of the press service of the Air Defense Forces for the Pacific Fleet.

"During the planned tactical exercises of the compound, the Marine Corps unit of troops and forces in northeastern Russia for the first time made a parachute landing on an unfamiliar landing site on the Commander Islands," RIA Novosti quotes him.

The purpose of the landing was to transfer forces to strengthen the defense of a military facility, which is deployed on one of the islands.

During the exercise, the marines "improved their jumping skills in full combat gear with standard weapons, organizing the defense of the facility in a tight time frame," Voskresensky added.
