The Hindu nationalist movement (Hindutua) is a political movement that began about a century ago with the aim of achieving absolute Hindu rule in India. This movement wages a continuous war against the country's Muslims and Christians as a threat to its security and authentic identity.

This movement broadcast extensive propaganda and fabricated claims that made the Hindu majority think that their rights were undermined in their country, that minorities had seized all opportunities, and that their religion, culture and even their existence were in danger, especially by the Muslims of this country.

This movement took advantage of the issue of building a Hindu temple in place of the Babri Mosque, so that its political wing (the People's Party) became the extreme nationalist (Bharatiya Janata), the largest Indian party, which ruled India during 1999-2004, and has controlled the reins of affairs in the country now since 2014.

Hindu revival

The dream of a "Hindu renaissance" has encompassed Hindu leaders since the 19th century. The leaders of the movement were not known to have fought the English colonialists. Rather, they mocked those who opposed the colonialist and were killed or imprisoned during that struggle.

And they used to say about themselves that they are preparing for things greater than independence, indicating that their goal is to establish a Hindu state, and they see that the English are their allies in this movement because they eliminate the influence of Muslims.

The well-known sociologist and historian Rajna Kothari believes that Hindus consist of a large number of minorities, and they are divided into groups, sects and classes, and therefore it is not correct to consider Hindus as a majority in India.

Therefore, this movement has sought to overcome this fragmentation, and unite the pure Indian sects and sects under one umbrella, at least with regard to its political and cultural goals.

It also believes that the Hindus are the true children of India, and they must rule the country politically, culturally and socially, and all other groups such as Muslims and Christians have to accept living in India as second-class citizens and guests.

It can be said that the Hindus are to Hinduism as Zionism to the Jews, for both are a racist political movement that claims to work for the followers of a particular religion, and because of this similarity, the closest relations between India and Israel have been established since its followers came to power in India in the late twentieth century.

Clearance policy

The most important part of the Hindu movement’s program since its inception has been, and still is, what they call “chaudhi” or purification, meaning the return of millions of Indians who converted to Islam or Christianity through the ages to the fold of Hinduism, because their ancestors were Hindu - as they claim - and their grandchildren should return To the religion of their parents.

In 1925, the "National Self-Service" organization, known by its initials, "RSS" emerged from the belly of the Hindu revival movements. RSS is now the most powerful Hindu movement organization.

This movement was influenced by Nazism and fascism, and it borrowed from them its ideas about sexual purity and political philosophy, and the leaders of this movement studied the methods of these two movements in order to apply them in India.

After independence in 1947, this movement did not accept the secular and democratic trends that were pursued by the independent government headed by Jawaharlal Nehru, whose spiritual father was Mahatma Gandhi. .

RSS was banned for the first time in February 1948 and the threat was eliminated in July 1949 after the organization requested a pardon and drew up a constitution for it, and assured the government that from now on it would be a "cultural" organization that had no role in politics. But it did not fulfill its pledges, and since then it has been establishing dozens of specialized subsidiary organizations for every field of life, such as political work, peasants, workers, students, mass work, and even armed action, and others in all fields.

Dangers looming in Hinduism

The Hindu movement believes that there are three "internal dangers" facing Hindus or India, the first being the Muslims, then the Christians. Therefore, it has been attacking Christians and their institutions and churches since the early seventies of the last century. The third source of danger lies in communism.

And the slogan of Hinduism in danger remained the favorite among the leaders of this movement, and they do not hesitate to say that Muslims will become a majority in the country in the near future, despite the fact that this claim is false.

The issue of building a temple in place of the Babri Mosque was the keyword for the renaissance of this movement, and its obtaining of the commoners' support from the Hindus, and it was also strengthened a lot when the state television began broadcasting films in episodes about Hindu myths in the early eighties, and it entered every home through long months of broadcasting.

These programs showed a mythical era as if it were a glorious and real history that should be proud of and work to achieve it once again on the ground.

These policies helped the People's Party, the political wing of the movement, and its shares began to rise with the advent of every new election. The number of its members in the central parliament increased to 86 in the 1989 elections, compared to only two members in the previous parliament.

The party was able to form the central government for the first time in 1998 for a short period, then returned to power again at the central government level in 1999 when it managed to win 187 seats in Parliament and rule India at the head of a coalition of 23 parties for about five years.

But he lost the 2004 elections and was only able to return to power in the May 2014 elections and then again in the 2019 elections, where he won by an overwhelming majority.

The Consecration of Hinduism India

With the party able to rule the country and form the government headed by Narendra Modi, it began implementing all the programs favored by the Hindu movement, so the autonomy of Kashmir was abolished, and it began to intervene in the Islamic personal status laws, and they pressured the Supreme Court judges so they decided to give the land of the Babri Mosque to the Hindus. The nationality law that targeted Muslims to deprive many of them of their nationality.

This measure was the last straw that broke the camel's back, so Muslims went out in demonstrations that turned into large popular demonstrations across the country, during which the police cracked down with extreme brutality, and the government took advantage of this unrest and then the Corona epidemic crisis to end these demonstrations by force.

Observers believe that with the presence of this party (Bharatiya Janata) in power, India is on the verge of many tensions and confrontations, because the current Modi government seeks to implement all the programs of the Hindu movement.
