The streets of Kaval Byrasandra are empty, but the carcasses of cars and buses are still burning. Police are patrolling and blocking access to the arteries where the riots took place. In this neighborhood where Hindus and Muslims live together, everything started on Tuesday evening from a photo posted by a relative of a deputy.

“  A member of his family posted a photo insulting Prophet Muhammad. So Muslims gathered to express their anger in front of his house. It escalated and they burned down his house. Then they went to torch the police station. The streets were no longer safe so I returned home  , ”testifies a resident.

145 arrests

After a massive police deployment, the revolt was contained around 1 a.m., at the cost of violent clashes. Sixty police officers were injured and 3 demonstrators were killed, authorities said. Many vehicles were also set on fire.

At least 145 people were arrested, including the author of the post. The local Janata Dal party, associated with the ruling BJP , speaks of a "  planned conspiracy  ", but it is still uncertain about the exact circumstances of this conflagration.

The lockdown had ended most gatherings since March. Today the #bangaloreriots (Bangalore riots) is making headlines in India. Gatherings of more than 4 people are prohibited throughout the city.
