Things are accelerating in Guinea. On Tuesday evening, President Alpha Condé announced in a speech on national television that the highly anticipated presidential election will take place on October 18. But the outgoing president has still not announced his candidacy for the election. A week ago, during a congress, his party, the RPG, nominated him as a candidate. Condé had affirmed to "take note" of this choice.

Through this decree, President Alpha Condé confirms the date of the presidential election, set for October 18. One way to remove doubts about the holding of the ballot and to confirm the timetable established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni).

All this takes place in a tense political context, insofar as the opposition remains convinced that the dice are loaded and that the Constitution adopted following the referendum of last March should be annulled.

Four opponents have just seized the president of the ECOWAS Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, to ask for the respect of the limit on the number of mandates (with the possible candidacy of Alpha Condé in the background ), to dissolve Parliament and restore constitutional order.

Points that should be discussed at the end of the week, during a meeting under the aegis of ECOWAS. The sub-regional body is trying to renew the dialogue between the opposition and the ruling party.
