Three days after the introduction of compulsory masks in certain streets of the capital, the police headquarters said on Wednesday that the measure did not apply to cyclists or motorists. 

Cyclists and people on scooters are not affected by the obligation to wear a mask against the coronavirus introduced since Monday in Paris and in four departments of Île-de-France, the police headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

No mask on bike or scooter ...

Since Monday morning, wearing a mask is compulsory for people over 11 years old in the busiest areas of the capital as well as Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val d'Oise. "Users of soft traffic modes such as bicycles or scooters are not affected by this obligation, insofar as, being passing through, they do not run the risk of contact in the lanes in which they travel", specifies the police headquarters in a press release.

Motorists are not affected either, according to the same press release. "Only pedestrians must wear the mask, including if they play sports, and will therefore be subject to control measures for compulsory wearing of a mask in the areas concerned", warns the police headquarters which "in conjunction with the city ​​of Paris, is working on an extension of the areas concerned ". Tuesday, Prime Minister Jean Castex hardened his tone in the face of an "epidemiological situation (which) is developing in the wrong direction". He now advocates the extension of the wearing of the mask outside.
