The Department of People of Determination at the Community Development Authority in Dubai has launched a new strategy to provide rehabilitation services for children at the Dubai Child Development Center, which provides for providing them through three methods. The family chooses what suits them. The treatment team conducts rehabilitation sessions at home, and the child undergoes sessions inside The center, and providing treatment via electronic channels.
Regarding the changes that have occurred in the methods of implementing treatment plans and providing service at the center, as a result of the Corona crisis, the Director of the Department, Maryam Al Hammadi, told Emirates Today that “the crisis, despite its difficulty and negative repercussions, had a positive effect on some Aspects », referring to the increase in treatment channels, and improvement of methods of presenting it by investing in new elements and skills available in the child's family environment.
And she continued, "The practical experience in implementing rehabilitation plans for children under the stress of the crisis revealed that treatment plans can continue and succeed, regardless of the location and time of their implementation."
She confirmed the existence of many cases, before the outbreak of the Coronavirus, “in which the child's treatment journey was disrupted as a result of the family’s unwillingness to come to the center, or its lack of conviction in applying the treatment at home. However, this matter changed completely after de facto (Corona), as families' convictions changed in the interest of continuing the rehabilitation of the child, in a way that serves the speed of completion of early intervention plans, and its integration into educational and social life.
She explained that "some families sometimes forget the date of the session, and they apologize late for not coming to the center." It also relied on a specific individual to follow the treatment sessions and implement the instructions of the treating team, but the matter has changed completely during the current period, as the number of family members who are ready to participate in the implementation of treatment plans has increased, and the problem of spatial and temporal conditions that hinders the holding of treatment sessions has increased, sometimes, by re-establishing Scheduling the presentation of the session in moments via virtual media and using electronic channels.
Al-Hammadi touched on the techniques used when providing treatment electronically, explaining that this requires the participation of a family member to ensure the child's implementation of the instructions during the virtual session, noting that more than one individual should be trained, according to his capabilities and the nature of his relationship with the child, to be able to participate in the application of treatment through virtual channels.
