Thousands of Yemenis demonstrated on the island of Socotra in support of the legitimate government and local authority, demanding the return of legitimate government institutions to the island and an end to what they described as the coup of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, while the new governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamed, took the constitutional oath in front of Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The demonstration organized by the "Southern National Coalition" - which supports the government of Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi - began under the slogan "Yemeni Socotra", and roamed a number of city streets, before stopping in front of the headquarters of the Saudi forces that lead the Arab coalition.

The demonstrators pointed to restrictions imposed on those coming from outside Hadibo - the capital of the Socotra Archipelago - such as obstructing their entry and forcing them to return to their areas.

According to residents, the Transitional Council forces fired shots in the air during the passage of the demonstration.

The demonstrators expressed their rejection of "attempts to monopolize Socotra by any political or social component or faction," stressing the importance of dialogue and rejecting the resort to violence and force, and rejecting the practices of the "transitional council" in Socotra.

A statement of the demonstration affirmed that the participants stood by President Hadi, and their support for the government and the National Army, and stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, hand over the "transitional" camps with all their equipment, and withdraw the armed elements.

Governor of Aden

On the other hand, the new governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamed, was sworn in in front of Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The Yemeni president called on the new governor of Aden to make more efforts in the current stage to serve Aden, pull it out of its current situation, activate services and establish security.

President Hadi had appointed Lamas, a leader in the Southern Transitional Council, as governor of Aden, following the agreement on the new mechanism to implement the Riyadh Agreement.

The mechanism included the Southern Transitional Council abandoning the Autonomous Administration and forming a government of equal competencies between the south and the north, and assigning the current Prime Minister, Maeen Abdul Malik, to form a government of political competencies within 30 days.

It also included the continuation of the ceasefire and escalation between the legitimate government and the Southern Transitional Council, as well as the departure of the military forces from Aden outside the governorate and the separation of the two parties' forces in Abyan governorate and returning them to their previous locations.
