Choice: Go west
"Being rooted in Xinjiang is the most determined choice in my life." Ding Guiyang from Qingdao said. This graduation season, Ding Guiyang from the Karamay campus of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), together with 117 students, decided to stay in Xinjiang and build Xinjiang.
Ding Guiyang said that for students majoring in resource exploration engineering, the geologically complex Xinjiang land is the best practice field. "Stay in Xinjiang, explore mines for the country, and donate oil for the motherland. I am willing to take on this glorious mission."
The west is hard, and the west is also promising. Because of ideals, concerns, and desire to dedicate themselves to the cause that makes the people happy, the vast and mysterious west has become a career choice for more and more aspiring young people.
Ma Li had a dream of supporting Tibet many years ago. After graduating from Taiyuan Normal University in 2014, Ma Li resolutely participated in the Western Program and came to the snowy plateau. During the two years of volunteering, he ate and lived with farmers and herdsmen and initiated a number of public welfare activities. Among them, he initiated the establishment of the "Love Transfer Station in Linzhou County, Lhasa City", which distributed more than one million pieces of clothing and provided one-on-one love assistance with more than 30 children.
After the two-year period expired, Ma Li made a decision to take root in Tibet. "I have established a deep friendship with the local farmers and herdsmen. Once I leave, won't my work return to zero?" Now, Ma Li has become a staff member of the Alang Township People's Government in Linzhou County, Lhasa. Alang Township was once the place where Comrade Kong Fansen struggled, which made Ma Libei feel honored.
Ma Li is not alone. Statistics show that as of the end of 2019, a total of 392,000 college graduates had been recruited across the country to participate in the "Three Supports and One Support" program, and nearly 80% of the expired personnel continued to work at the grassroots level. As of the end of 2018, a total of more than 290,000 Western Program University Student Volunteers went to the grassroots level of more than 2,100 counties, cities, and flags in the Midwest.
For many college graduates, choosing the west means choosing a distant place. For other college students from the west, going to the grassroots level in the west is a return after walking out of the mountains.
Zhao Kun graduated from the Beijing Institute of Nano Energy and System Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and chose to return to his hometown of Gansu after graduation in 2018. He has now become a young researcher at Lanzhou University of Technology. "If we are not willing to come back, others will be even less willing to come." Zhao Kun said that for me, giving up the eastern part with better treatment and environment and returning to the western part is the most correct and regretless choice.
Coming, staying, and taking root, college graduates are injecting inexhaustible strength into the western construction. Struggle: No regrets Shaohua
One day in 2017, a gentle young man with black-rimmed glasses came to Liulin Village, Badu Yao Township, Tianlin County, Guangxi. His name is Mu Haidi, who was born in 1994 and just arrived as the first secretary of the village that day. "Can this kid take us out of poverty?" The villagers were full of doubts.
Two years later, the per capita income of Liulin Village has increased by 4,000 yuan from 2017. Mu Haidi used practical actions to hand in satisfactory answers to his fathers and villagers. No funds, no money, long distances, water and electricity...Whenever you encounter difficulties, Mu Haidi said that as long as it can bring everyone to wealth, this is not a problem.
Difficulties, Yuru Yucheng. Not only on the main battlefield of poverty alleviation, but also the college students who have rooted in the west are struggling day and night in all fields to inject a steady stream of youthful power to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
In 2009, Zhipeng Xun, who had just left school, plunged into the Taklimakan Desert, known as the "Sea of Death". In the 11 years of rooting in the desert, he often looked at the wind and sand raging outside the window and the sand falling from the food, and muttered silently: "When will the youth not fight?!"
With the efforts of Zhipeng Xun and his colleagues, on June 23, 2019, Tarim Oilfield successfully drilled 8882 meters deep Rotary 1 well, setting seven Asian records including the deepest onshore well in Asia, and exceeding the depth of 8,000 meters. The deep formation of industrial oil and gas flow opened up a new field of ultra-deep oil and gas exploration in the Tarim Basin.
In Nagqu, Tibet, which has an average altitude of more than 4,500 meters, Tan Haiyu has been rooted for 17 years. In Nagqu 17 years ago, the hospital's infectious disease department was short of professionals, medical facilities were incomplete, and the high incidence of tuberculosis, hepatitis and other infectious diseases threatened the lives and health of the people.

For this oath, Haiyu introduced technology, standardized diagnosis and treatment plans, and actively introduced talents; when there was a risk of infectious diseases, he always took the most dangerous and arduous tasks on himself; In the past 17 years, I only spent 3 Spring Festivals with my parents in my hometown...
As the saying goes, donation is not worthy of merit, Tan Haiyu has cured more than 8,000 patients with acute and chronic infectious diseases over the years. With her efforts, the construction of the hospital's infectious department has made a qualitative leap. "No amount of honor can compare to the recognition of me by farmers and herdsmen. Since I have chosen to root in the plateau of northern Tibet, I have to take on this responsibility." She said.
Youth is splendid by tempering, and life is sublimated by struggle. "Shufu County will get rid of poverty in 2019. After saying goodbye to poverty, it is time to say hello to Xiaokang." When graduating from university in 2014, Cui Jiuxiu from Shandong chose to go to the west in Kashgar. The Sayibag Community of Shufu County in the district served as the party branch secretary.
"The next goal is to help the villagers expand their channels to get rich and add fire to the revitalization of the village." Now, Cui Jiuxiu helps the villagers establish clothing processing cooperatives, sewing training classes, and leads the masses to develop a thousand acres of solar greenhouse industry and develop garden planting and breeding. I tried my best to increase the fees for the villagers.
Liu Lei, who is studying for a Ph.D., has entered the west four times. In 2014, he taught in Burqin County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang for one year; in 2016, he volunteered in Lhasa for one year; while studying for a doctorate at Jilin University, he returned to Tibet twice to support Tibetan minority students and promote ethnic exchanges between Tibet and Han.
But he still hopes to apply what he has learned to grassroots construction after graduation to serve the grassroots people.
