The Civil Guard has detained the Constitutional Court magistrate Fernando Valdés in Madrid after being denounced for a heated argument with his wife for an alleged incident of gender violence.

The arrest, advanced by El Español , occurred after the complaint from residents of the house in the Madrid town of Majadahonda who alerted the Civil Guard to what they considered to be a high-level discussion.

The magistrate was transferred to the premises of the Armed Institute and later to the local gender violence courts.

Fernando Valdés is qualified in his capacity as magistrate of the Constitutional Court, at the proposal of the PSOE.

In the first instance, he will respond to the gender violence court but, due to his status as an expert, the case must be transferred to the Supreme Court.

Valdés, 75, is one of four members of the Constitutional who should have been renewed a year ago, when his term ended.
