A new café is now used as a shelter for around fifteen abandoned or injured cats in Hanoi, Vietnam. 24-year-old Nguyen Thanh Binh collects cats and shelters them, hoping they will eventually find a new home.

“I try to help cats in difficulty, to treat their physical and mental injuries,” explained the manager of the Chez Ngao café. Her nonprofit establishment quickly drew cat lovers after it opened in July. There is coffee, but also felines to stroke, care for and adopt.

Help cats find new owners

Nguyen Thanh Binh created his cafe after seeing cats locked in cages and others injured by thieves trying to catch them. “Once my friends and I have the cats, we start by taking the sick ones to a vet,” he explains. “When they are better, I bring them back here to the cafe to take care of them even better. He hopes clients will be tempted to adopt them and wants to help cats "find new owners - owners who really love them." In Vietnam, cats are popular pets, but they can also be sold for their meat. Cat thieves are rampant to sell them so that they can be cooked.
