New reports, new measures and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- More than 731,000 dead worldwide -

The pandemic has killed at least 731,518 people around the world since the end of December, according to a report established Monday by AFP from official sources.

Almost 19.9 million cases have been officially recorded in 196 countries and territories, of which at least 11.8 million are now considered cured.

The United States, which remains the most bereaved country with 162,938 dead, exceeded 5 million confirmed cases of contamination on Sunday.

Next come Brazil (101,049 dead), Mexico (52,298), the United Kingdom (46,574) and India (44,386).

- Violence in Peru -

Natives furious at the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic attacked a site operated by a Canadian oil company in the Peruvian Amazon, where three attackers were killed in clashes with police, the government said on Sunday.

- Paris hides itself -

Parisians must wear a mask since Monday morning in more than a hundred streets located in the busiest districts of the French capital, crushed by scorching heat.

Scheduled for a renewable period of one month, this measure should allow health authorities to stop a rebound of the virus which raises fears of a second wave of the epidemic.

- Businesses battered in the UK -

One in three companies in the United Kingdom intends to cut jobs in the third quarter, according to a study published on Monday, raising fears of a wave of social plans in the country while the withdrawal of the partial unemployment scheme is expected in a few months.

In total, 33% of the 2,000 employers surveyed expect to lay off by the end of September, underlines this study by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the temporary working group Adecco.

- "Bubble" in New Zealand -

New Zealand plans to create a "bubble" with the Small Cook Islands to promote trade between the two territories, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday.

Such a corridor, where travel would be possible without there being a quarantine to be done, is possible thanks to the good results of the two countries in the fight against Covid-19, explained the leader.

- DRC: resumption of lessons -

Schoolchildren and students partly returned to school on Monday in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after the end of the state of emergency announced on July 21.

The start of the school year only concerns students in the last years of primary and secondary school, as well as those in fifth year at university.

- Champions League -

The quarter-final of the Champions League between the Germans of RB Leipzig and Atlético Madrid is "scheduled as planned" Thursday, despite the two cases of coronavirus within the Spanish club, announced Monday the UEFA.
