- It is mainly in the smaller urban areas that we want it to be easier to buy land. It is in Molkom, Vålberg and Väse. This is because we want better growth in these smaller urban areas, says Frida Pettersson (C), who is a municipal councilor and chair of the growth committee in Karlstad.

Land in the central town of Karlstad is judged, according to the proposal submitted by the technical and real estate committee, to be of "strategic and economic importance for the municipality".

- Within the border on the map, we will mainly keep the land, says Frida Pettersson.

A decision is required in the municipal council

In order to sell land in the central town of Karlstad, a decision in the municipal council must be required, according to the proposal.

What this means for the garage association in Sjöstad, which rents land from Karlstad municipality and which previously refused when they wanted to buy the land, is unclear.

The association's chairman is critical of the proposed rules.

- This means that you start from the distance from Karlstad's center. Then I wonder why the distance is important, is not the usefulness of the ground that is important?

Retains land with a large increase in value

Frida Pettersson says that there is a balance between retaining and selling land.

- We will keep the land that has a large increase in value and that is interesting from an urban development perspective, she says.

The proposal for a new land policy has been discussed in the municipal board, which, however, referred the matter back to the technical and real estate committee.

During the autumn, the politicians in the municipal board and the municipal council will take a position on a new land policy, but exactly what the proposal will look like is not yet clear.
