France's Fiona Ferro, 6-2, 7-5 winner over Estonian Anett Kontaveit in the final of the Palermo tournament on Sunday, won the first trophy on the WTA circuit after a five-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ferro, world No. 53, easily dominated the first round then was more hung up by his opponent, 22nd in the hierarchy, in the second, but held on to afford the second trophy of his career, after Lausanne in 2019 .
