By the Changjiang River, strong winds roared and turbid waves hit the shore.

In the early morning of July 9th, on the embankment of Changjiangwei in Poyang County, Jiangxi Province, He Xiaoliang, the head of the mobile detachment of the Armed Police Jiangxi Corps, issued an order to the officers and soldiers on the embankment: “This embankment is the last line of defense for 200,000 people. We are the people’s soldiers. Make every effort to protect the lives and property safety of the people."

He Xiaoliang's detachment is a heroic unit. It performed outstandingly in the Jiujiang flood fight in 1998 and was recorded as a collective first-class service by the State Council and the Central Military Commission. Over the years, a group of officers and soldiers have regarded this honor as a "heirloom" and used practical actions to sing the song of love for the people.

Since July 8, the water surface of the Changjiang River has been more than 1 meter above the road surface of the embankment and has become a "hanging river" on the ground. As the water level continued to rise, loosening and leakage occurred in many places in the dam. After receiving the flood control and disaster relief order, the officers and men of the detachment fought continuously and built a dyke 3 meters wide, 1.5 meters high, and 1.5 kilometers long to forcibly block the rushing flood.

On the evening of July 9, a dike breach occurred in Zhongzhouwei, Changzhou Township, Poyang County, and more than 30,000 people in 15 administrative villages under Changzhou Township were affected. The detachment urgently dispatched more than 100 officers and soldiers to Changzhou Township to transfer the affected people.

After arriving in Changzhou Township, the officers and soldiers quickly divided into several groups and drove the assault boats to conduct search and rescue operations. At this time, underwater obstacles are complicated, and branches and wires on the water surface are entangled. Avoiding many obstacles, the officers and soldiers finally arrived at the worst-hit Chenjia Village in Dunshang.

In the village, 86-year-old Chen Kechang was besieged by floods on the second floor of a building. "There are people here!" After hearing the old man's faint cry for help, Liu Bin, the squadron leader of Mobile Seventh Squadron, immediately approached his comrades in the assault boat.

The current was so fast that the officers and soldiers almost fell into the water several times during the rescue, but they did not fear difficulties and dangers, and finally managed to rescue the old man through a relay lift.

"Seeing the officers and soldiers of the armed police is like seeing your relatives." The old man was successfully transferred ashore, tears in his eyes and tears in his hands to thank him.

The flood-fighting levee is not only a "battlefield" for fighting natural disasters, but also a "testing field" for testing the original intentions of officers and soldiers.

In the early morning of July 11, a dike breach occurred in Shuangfeng Nanwei, Poyang County, directly endangering the safety of the Polian Highway and the county. More than 200 officers and soldiers of the detachment immediately rushed to the Booshihu Reservoir dam near the breach of the embankment to build a second line of defense.

"Follow me!" At the critical moment, Wan Shiwu, the squad leader of Mobile Fifth Squadron, rushed to the front of the team, leading his comrades to speed up to cover the soil and spread the tarp. The calf was bruised by the stone and ignored. Wan Shiwu's home is not far from Zhegang Township, which is also one of the disaster-stricken areas. These days, his father and brother are fighting on the front line of flood fighting. "Before the task,'everyone' is the most important thing." Wan Shiwu said.

"There is a group of springs in front of you!" At 7 o'clock on July 12, a group of springs with a length of about 12 meters and a width of about 3 meters appeared on the Jiangjialing section of the Changjiangwei embankment. At the same time, there were signs of landslides. , Dike breach may occur at any time.

The situation was urgent. The officers and soldiers of the detachment worked with local cadres guarding the embankment to formulate a treatment plan of “one-layer filtration, two-layer pressurization, and three-layer containment” based on the principle of “reverse filtration and seepage, and control sand-carrying”. The military and civilians worked together to transport more than 5,000 bags of soil and pave 28 cubic meters of filter materials such as sand and stone. It took 5 hours to successfully deal with the danger.

In front of the Hong Mo, the boats chopped through the waves, one by one, their backs were facing dangerously retrograde...On the shore of Poyang Lake, the officers and soldiers built an indestructible "camouflage levee".
