With the rising anger of Egyptians towards President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's policies, activists launched a tag entitled "Expose Sisi with a paper" to reveal Sisi's failures in the files of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Eastern Mediterranean gas, as well as the economic and human rights deterioration, and the failure to fulfill his previous promises of a better life.
The hashtag was topped by social media, especially Twitter, where activists called for the Senate election period to be used in the coming days to publish publications that reveal Sisi's failures, in conjunction with a blogging campaign on social media.
The tweeters numbered the crises caused by Sisi and his regime, on top of which the negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam were stalled, relations with Libya tense, and some of the country's rights in eastern Mediterranean gas were ceded after the signing of the maritime border demarcation agreement with Greece.
Activists accused Sisi of causing the Renaissance Dam crisis to exacerbate and Addis Ababa to start filling the dam reservoir, based on the principles agreement that Sisi signed in 2015, which allowed the initial filling to begin in conjunction with the negotiations.
The Ethiopian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Dina Mufti, said that his country could not sign an agreement stipulating that specific quotas for water from the Renaissance Dam be passed to the downstream countries.
According to the Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk, the Mufti stated that Addis Ababa confirmed in its proposal to the two downstream countries to continue the stages of filling the dam and not to address the issue of sustainable sharing of the Nile water shares.
Others saw that Sisi's latest crisis was the recent signing of the maritime border agreement with Greece, which the opposition considers to have confused a large area of Egypt's rights in the Mediterranean, but the Egyptian authorities say that the agreement comes in accordance with international law on defining the economic zones of neighboring countries.
Some considered that political intimidation with Turkey is the main reason behind the signing of the agreement, and not listening to the intelligence and foreign advice that recommended the president not to close the door to a future agreement with Ankara, due to the Egyptian interests it contains, according to what was previously published by "Mada Masr" website.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry considered that the agreement has no value, adding, "As if it was not because there are no maritime borders between Greece and Egypt, and Turkey will act according to this concept in the field and on the table."
