• Ballot boxes: elections without 'crown prince' for Alexander Lukashenko

Exit polls give current Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko more than 79.7% of the vote in Sunday's presidential election. According to the official poll, the main opposition candidate, Svetlana Tijanovskaya, who has dragged tens of thousands of disaffected to the streets in recent weeks, is far behind with 6.8% , according to these data. But these results do not match those offered by foreign media polls , which draw a total turnaround. Alexander Lukashenko, in power since 1994, would get 10%. Svetlana Tijanovskaya would sweep with 71%. These figures were calculated after conducting surveys in 18 polling stations. The data was broadcast by Radio Svaboda.

Five candidates aspired to the Presidency of Belarus in the elections this Sunday . The main ones were Lukashenko himself, who was running for his sixth term, and Tijanovskaya, who is the wife of popular opposition blogger Serguei Tijanovski, who was arrested in late May. Tijanovskaya has united the entire opposition behind her name.

The electoral campaign in Belarus has been marred by the arrests of opposition politicians and activists and citizen protests in Minsk and other cities. Also present were the former deputy of the Lower House of Parliament Ana Kanopetskaya; the co-president of the NGO Govori Pravdu Andrei Dimitriev; and the leader of the Gramada social democratic party, Sergei Cherechen.

The opposition has shown during these days its fear of a massive fraud by the Lukashenko regime, which during the past month arrested or caused the exile of the main opposition candidates. Tijanovskaya called on Belarusians in recent hours not to resort to violence after the polls closed . But on the internet, outrage grew when hearing news such as that in some polling stations in Minsk, participation already exceeded 100% of the census at seven in the afternoon, according to data from independent observers released by the Russian newspaper 'Novaya Gazeta'.

The Central Election Commission of Belarus reported that more than 40% of voters had voted before the main election day. The final results will be known on Friday , but there are complaints that during the day the entry to the polling stations was not facilitated to independent observers.

Security forces continued to blockade the center of Minsk in the afternoon. During the afternoon the Belarusian police did not allow people to enter the Independence Square and several metro stops were closed. Journalists, activists and observers have been detained in recent days . The internet worked intermittently in the capital and some websites were inaccessible.
