At the cancer center at the University Hospital in Umeå, patients who are suspected of having cancer can be referred further, but staff have recently noticed a tendency for many to come in a little too late.
- There may be patients who have interpreted their symptoms as covid and for that reason did not seek care, says Elisabeth O Karlsson, operations manager at the Cancer Center.
The problem of patients not seeking care has been highlighted earlier during the corona pandemic, and at the hospital in Umeå, the phenomenon is now noticeable.
- We want to encourage those who have symptoms to seek help. You do not have to be afraid of covid in care, says Elisabeth O Karlsson.
