It is almost thirty degrees and the lawns at Reimersholme in Stockholm are full of blankets and sunbathing people. The island is one of many places in the country that this weekend was visited by large numbers of bathers.

One of them is Vendela Lundberg, who has withdrawn from the largest crowd.

- It feels nice to be a little apart, partly because there is more shade here but also because you should not be so close to each other, she says.

- It feels almost a bit exclusive to be here. It looks like a charcuterie tray over there, people are so close. But I understand that you want to go out and take a dip. But if someone had lain down right next door, I would probably have thought it was a little strange, I would probably have moved.

"Maybe people have listened"

On a hill a short distance away, Christina Franzé and Roland Svensson are playing boules, well protected from the sun by the trees.

Below, a well-visited lawn spreads out, full of people.

- I think they take care of themselves. They have space between them, more than two meters, it is very good, says Christina Franzé and looks out over the sunbathing people.

- We have heard that we should keep our distance, maybe people have listened to it.

But Roland Svensson does not agree.

- You young people are not so careful about you, he says and points out that there are many in the area who do not keep their distance.

- They are quite close. And along the quay on the other side it is even tighter.

"Worried about new outbreaks"

Intensive work is underway in the municipalities to encourage people to follow the Swedish Public Health Agency's recommendations.

Posters, signs and informative summer workers do their part to spread the word.

- We are in corona times and a pandemic. That is why we all need to continue to take responsibility. During heat waves, people relax and do not think about following the recommendations to keep their distance, says Anna Conzen, head of emergency preparedness at the County Administrative Board in Stockholm.

- We are at a low level compared to before when it comes to infection, but we are worried that there will be new outbreaks, something several authorities are already planning for. We want to avoid this in every way we can.
