"We protect jobs, we support workers, we reduce tax burdens, we help the regions," said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.

Among other things, the southern parts of Italy, which are less developed than the industrial northern parts, will receive tax benefits.

"We are aware of the lack of infrastructure in the south that is less competitive and we want this gap to be reduced," says Conte.

Conte also says that rules on social distancing and mandatory mouth protection will apply until 7 September.
