A few weeks ago, a man in his 55s was arrested on probable cause on suspicion of aggravated assault and unlawful threats, after a woman was assaulted early in the morning on July 9 on Lögarängen in Västerås.

As part of the investigation, the district court has obtained a personal investigation of the suspect from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. It states that the suspect man already appears under fifteen sections in the criminal record, mainly regarding violent crimes and drug crimes.

Most recently in February this year, he was convicted of minor drug offenses and unlawful threats, to probation combined with a regulation to submit to drug rehab and psychiatric treatment.

Tells about his addiction

During the personal investigation, the suspect says that he has been abusing drugs for a long time, but that the abuse has been going on for periods.

He has tried to become sober with the help, but after several treatments he has started to fall back into his addiction relatively immediately.

The event at Lögarängen

During the personal investigation, the man also tells about the incident on Lögarängen, when he is suspected of brutally abusing a woman.

"At the time of the current suspected crime, NN states that he was under the influence of drugs and that he was paranoid and saw the plaintiff as a threat. He describes vague memories of the event. "

Anders Ylönen, the man's lawyer, is silent.

- Right now I do not want to comment on this case at all, but you can get back to me if charges are brought. But at the moment, during the ongoing preliminary investigation, I do not want to comment on the matter at all, he says.

Extended prosecution period

On Thursday, Chief Prosecutor Stephan Uttersköld requested additional time for the investigation, before any charges can be brought.

- The investigation situation looks good, but there is still some work to be done.

Stephan Uttersköld says that new interrogations will be held and that they are also waiting for analytical answers from NFC, the National Forensic Center.

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service, which has carried out the personal investigation, has also suggested that the suspect should undergo a so-called section 7 examination, a small mental examination.
