The fire destroyed 165 hectares of forest in Anglet. - IROZ GAIZKA / AFP

We should know a little more this Friday about the Anglet fire. A week after the fire that devastated 165 hectares of forest and vegetation as well as around thirty houses, the Bayonne Public Prosecutor, Jérôme Bourrier, will hold a press conference at 6 p.m. But this morning, the prosecution announced the placement in police custody of a man.

According to France Bleu Pays basque, this is aresident of a household. He is said to have boasted to his comrades of being the source of the fire and the story returned to the ears of an educator. It was the latter who warned the police. The suspect should be brought to justice after the opening of a criminal investigation.

Several fire starts

From August 1, the Bayonne public prosecutor's office had indicated that the fire was of human origin, without knowing whether the act was voluntary or not. He also specified that there had been several starts of fire near the Orok Bat stadium in Anglet according to the first elements of the investigation.
